The PROFIRE USA Multi-State CCW Permit Handgun Safety Course™

Q. In what states can a Colorado resident carry concealed?
A. If you obtain a Colorado CCW permit, you'll be able to carry a concealed handgun in up to 28 states with just that one permit. By getting a second CCW permit from Utah, which is available to residents of any state, you'll be able to carry in up to 34 states using both your Colorado and Utah permits together. By obtaining additional permits, you can expand your "carry coverage" even further. We'll tell you how in this course! Please note that Colorado residents MUST obtain a Colorado permit to carry in Colorado!

The above carry coverage map is intended only as a beginning reference point and permit reciprocity and/or other acceptance is subject to change at any time without notice. It remains the responsibility of the permit holder to verify acceptance of their permit, as well as to obtain carry restriction information, for each state in which they intend to carry BEFORE they do so!

The above map is NOT to be used "both ways" in that it has been created from the perspective of the Colorado and Utah permits only. For example, the Colorado permit is accepted in the states coded as green and yellow as of the date when this map was created. That means the Colorado permit can be used in say Alabama. This does NOT mean that the Alabama can be used in all of the green and/or yellow states just because it is coded the same color. The colors shown on the above map apply to this map ONLY.

Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire accept the Colorado permit. These four states also accept the Utah permit BUT ONLY when carried by a Utah resident. These four states have the same type of residency restriction for all out of state permits that they accept. Other states may adopt this restriction. Kansas does NOT currently accept the Utah permit.

CO Senate Bill 07-034, which HAS become law, requires residency of the issuing state in order to use an out of state permit in Colorado. The permit holder must be a resident of the issuing state AND that permit must be accepted in Colorado under reciprocity or other acceptance. Thus, Colorado residents may no longer use an out of state, non-resident permit to carry in Colorado and residents of other states must have a "home" state permit that is valid in Colorado.

California, Nebraska, New York and many of the states shown in pink issue only to their residents. Notable exceptions are Nevada and Pennsylvania which actively issue to non-residents. For example, you must be a resident with a permit from California to carry in California. The same is true for Nebraska, New York and most of the others.

Q. What do I need before I can take this course?

A. The regular tuition is $149/person with discounted tuition as low as $99/person when you register with friends and train together!

Course Description
The content of this course has been approved by the State of Utah for the Utah CCW Permit. It is not an NRA course. This course also meets the training requirements of a handgun safety course for the Colorado and selected other state CCW permits including the Wyoming permit which is available only to residents of that state.

As required by Utah, this course covers handgun safety and Utah laws first in four (4) to six (6) hours then it covers Colorado laws and Colorado-specific information.

Neither Colorado or Utah specifically require live-fire. Some counties are known to prefer that applications have a live-fire range session but this is not a state requirement. When taken with a live-fire range session, this course also meets the training requirements for the Florida CCW Permit as well as the CCW permits issued by several other states.

A separate range session and fee will be required if the student does not demonstrate proficiency in safe handling of their handgun and general firearms familiarity, in the event of a safety violation during the classroom handling session and/or if they are seeking a permit that requires live-fire.

We STRONGLY urge all those seeking a CCW permit to take a live-fire range session in conjunction with their CCW course unless they have prior DEFENSIVE handgun training and/or they will be completing one or more defensive handgun courses with live-fire such as NRA Personal Protection OUTSIDE The Home.

To be safe and effective in presenting and using a handgun from concealment for protection, you MUST have specific defensive handgun training from qualified instructors. Do NOT shortcut your safety by just taking a basic handgun safety course to meet the minimum training requirements for a permit.

While you are waiting one to three months for your permit application to be processed, take a real defensive handgun course so that you can begin to develop the real skills that you must have if you find it necessary to use your handgun for protection.
